In a recent survey, it was found that 76% of buyers said that they never used the private auction option and 65% of all those who responded to the survey said that an auction being private would make them less likely to participate in it. The reasons that were given for not wanting to participate in a private auction were:

1. They thought the seller had something to hide.

2. They thought that the auction might be a scam.

3. They thought that the private auction defeated the protection of transparency of eBay auctions.

Buyers who participate in private eBay auctions cannot be warned that an item is bogus by other sellers or buyers.

This does remove some of the safety that bidding on items through regular eBay auctions provides.

The private eBay auction smacks of deceit and maybe even of intrigue. Yet there are many sellers on eBay who always use the private auction option.

They say that it protects them as sellers and that it also protects their customers. The majority of eBay members, however, do not agree with their assessment.

5 Ways to Fail on eBay

Nobody sets out to fail at anything. Everybody who ventures forth in any endeavor rarely considers the possibility of failing. Failure isnt an option...or so they think.

The sad truth is, however, that failure isnt only an option; it is a probability unless the venturer knows where he is going, how he is going to get there, doesnt spend a lot of time or energy searching for shortcuts and follows the rules for success.

Here are five ways to guarantee your failure as a seller on eBay:

1.Use titles that dont describe the item: It is amazing to see titles of items that have no bearing whatsoever on the item being offered for auction.

Titles like, L@@K” or Beautiful or Amazing are not only not descriptive; they are totally ineffective. With a title like that, youll be lucky to get your mother to bid on the item.

2.Use ALL CAPS: Do it often and create large blocks of text in all capital letters. All capital letters are difficult to read.

It might seem that you are drawing attention but using all capital letters has the opposite effect.

3.Misspell a few words and be sure that your grammar stinks: There are very few things in advertising that are a bigger turn off to buyers than misspelled words and poor grammar...so if you REALLY want to fail...do both.

4.Dont worry about your feedback score: So your feedback score is hovering somewhere around zero...why should you care?

Duh! You are so wrong if you think that your feedback score doesnt matter to potential buyers.

5.Dont bother with the old photograph thing: Who cares if the picture beside your advertisement is out of focus and looks more like a black blob than a curtain?

The photograph is the only way a potential customer can see the item that is being offered....your wordy description isnt going to do the trick.
